Neurology is a branch of medicine that studies diseases of the brain, brainstem, spinal cord, peripheral nervous system, and muscles. It includes diagnostic and non-surgical treatment practices.
At our hospital, advanced imaging methods enable the diagnosis and treatment of neurological diseases. In modern medical practice, advanced laboratories play a vital role in the diagnosis and management of neurological disorders. Especially in cerebrovascular diseases, the radiology department—which is of critical importance—supports diagnosis with accurate and high-quality results using next-generation imaging equipment.
EEG (Electroencephalography)
EMG (Electromyoneurography)
Many systemic diseases can cause neurological findings, and conversely, some neurological diseases can affect other organ systems. Since many neurological disorders do not present symptoms limited to a single system, patients often consult various specialists before reaching neurology.
The most common complaints presented to our neurology outpatient clinic include:
Headaches
Dizziness
Strokes
Disorders involving altered consciousness (such as epilepsy)
Numbness in hands and feet
Various forms of muscle weakness
With the increase in the elderly population and the rising prevalence of systemic diseases such as hypertension, heart disease, and diabetes, related complications are also becoming more common. Stroke is the most dramatic and feared of these complications.
At our hospital, patients are evaluated using techniques such as cranial computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), echocardiography, and extracranial Doppler ultrasonography. The results contribute significantly to diagnosis, follow-up, and treatment planning. In life-threatening conditions such as coma, progressive stroke, or frequent seizures, patients are monitored and treated in the intensive care unit.
EMG (Electromyoneurography) is performed in our electrophysiology laboratory to evaluate neuropathies—commonly presenting as numbness in the hands and feet—as well as to diagnose painful conditions such as lumbar and cervical disc herniations.
EEG (Electroencephalography) is also performed in our electrophysiology laboratory. It is a key diagnostic tool, especially in epilepsy and other central nervous system disorders.
Headaches are a common complaint that reduce work performance and productivity and are increasingly becoming a public health concern. They are evaluated in detail in our neurology outpatient clinic.
Memory loss is a frequent complaint in daily life. This condition, especially in advanced age, may be a sign of serious neurological diseases, most notably Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s typically begins with memory loss, particularly affecting recent memories.
Other causes of memory problems include:
Age-related forgetfulness
Dementia
Cognitive impairment following stroke
Head trauma
Brain infections
Alcohol-related cognitive disorders
Postoperative cognitive dysfunction
Cognitive decline during chronic neurological diseases like Parkinson’s disease and Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
Evaluation and treatment of memory problems are available at our hospital.
Parkinson’s disease is a chronic, progressive, and currently incurable neurological disorder caused by dysfunction in the basal ganglia (gray matter nuclei) located in the lower parts of the brain. It typically occurs in middle age and affects about 1 in 1,000 people. Evaluation and treatment of Parkinson’s disease are provided at our hospital.
